Blue collar, hard working and friendly people - this was the Scranton I knew in the 1960s and 1970s. I grew up just a few blocks from downtown, next to railroad track. The same place my Mother's family lived since before the turn of the century. My Grandmother met Saint Francis Cabrini and was one of the first students to attend her school. After that, every member of my family attended Cabrini and all of us graduated from West Side High School. I graduated in 1971, the same year that the 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18, we started using unleaded gas, troop levels in Vietnam were lowered to 200,000, Charles Manson was sentenced to death (reduced to a life sentence), "All In The Family" was new on TV and a couple of Americans drove around the Moon in a "lunar buggy". It would be an understament to say that it was a dynamic time of change in the United states. The photos are in no particular order, but grouped loosely by subject or event.
