lastcow > Actually two photos.  Taken from the tip of  Historic Fort Johnson (were the Civil War started).  Behind me, in this photo, is Fort Sumter and the entrance to the Atlantic ocean and to the right is " The Battery"  and the Charleston skyline.  Photo © L. J. Laskowski, 2004
lastcow > The last remaining building of the original Fort Johnson.  In 1776, prior to the Battle of Sullivan's Island (celebrated in South Carolina as "Carolina Day") General William Moultrie here raised the first flag of Liberty.  The plaque over the door commenorates this and was place there by the Rebecca Motte Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).  We live just a few miles from here and my wife works just a few buildings away.
